Women's Race 2010

Calgary, Shouldice Park, Aug 29th.

We were right outside Kristi's old back yard (I reconized the KFC at the corner, and then the park we met at years ago for our family reunion...back when the family wasn't quite so big!) OH Kristi - Angie took me to a diner (that was closed both times, dang it) that was right beside the quilting store you used to go to...in that weird cul-de-sac across from a chateau something or other home decorations and really expensive clothes store. We also passed by Jess and Brian's new home...didn't stop in though because I wasn't 100 % sure and didn't have the address.

This woman was an inspiration to me...82 years old and running the 5 km. What was truly cool to watch was the group she was with joined her at the last turn in the race and crossed the finish line with her. Really, it brought tears to my eyes...what a great team and show of support to each other.
Me and Ang. Happy to be done...not quite warm yet but we've added extra layers already.

Yah Jaina! Ang and Jaina ran as a mother-daughter team. So proud of you both!

This was on our way to the race...please notice the rain on the window. We weren't too hopeful it would stop before the race started...and it didn't!
I really enjoyed this race. Not my usual running song, but there is something right about running along the river and listening to Mary G. Blige and Andrea Bocelli sing "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". Of course I ended with my go to song..."Paradise by a Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf, played really, really, loud!
Can't wait until next year!

Popcorn Olympics

Shari passed on some fun popcorn games for FHE along with the parable of the Popcorn Seed (we likened it unto the parable of the 10 talents). It was so silly and my boys loved it. It doesn't matter how old you are, the desire to blow popcorn across the floor never fades. Noah called it the Popcorn Olympics and wants to do it again. Thanks Shari!

Kai was hilarious! He crouched down and sucked each popcorn piece off the paper and laughed so loud when we yelled DON'T EAT PETE! at him.

Other games included tossing popcorn into each others mouth's and seeing who had the longest popcorn throw.
Too fun!

Jason and Joanne's lake

Some big boys...

some little boys...
one hot mama...

one silly boy...

and one cute girl!!

This all adds up to one great day at the lake!
It probably has an official name but I don't know what it is. Thank you, Jason, for taking the boys on the boat...They talked about it all the way home.

trek

Ryan and Noah got to experience Trek this summer...man did that bring back memories of when I went!
All they could take had to fit inside one 20 gallon bucket plus a bag for their sleeping bag and pillow.

They both had a great time and said they would go again. (Well, Noah recanted that a few days later and said he might go again...)

Wet, but HAPPY!

Calaway Park in the rain. Everyone should do it once.

Ryan and Noah had a great time running around with Becca and Emily and Cam and Kai hung out with 8 other cousins. We hung around until the {almost} very end and capped the day off with warm fresh donuts.

I think those were the most delicious donuts I've ever tasted!

Before and After

Ok, so I can't figure out how to flip the pictures, so you after and before.
Just for fun one of these days I'll scan in the before before picture, where he is 11 and just getting the braces on. Holy doodle what a change!
I have one happy 13 year old around the house these days!

Go Hockey Canada!!

There was a big celebration at Commonwealth the end of June for all the Canadian Olympic Hockey winners. At the same time the honored our military. It was a beautiful night to hang outside and enjoy the show. George Canyon preformed and a fighter jet flew overhead. 61 of 64 olympic hockey players were there including Luongo and Messier...Pronger wasn't there so no one could boo him. The neatest part I think was when they patched in the pilot's mic so we could all hear him talk as he flew by. Totally cool.

~Happy summer!

2 more sleeps

I can hardly wait! 2 more sleeps until summer holidays! Yah!! I think I'm more excited that my boys are. How can this be? I don't know, and I don't care...SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!!!

I saw a sign today that was something about a good day being where laziness and respectability meet. This is my goal for the next 8 weeks.

~see you in september

1574

1574. This is quite a large number.
Do you have 1574 of anything?
How about buttons in your sewing room
or lego,
or how many times you've thought about what to make for dinner.
Do you even know 1574 people on a first name basis?
How about well enough to put them as a contact in you phone?
Apparently my husband does.
He has, no joke, 1574 different contacts in his cell.

It is a running joke with us that wherever we go we run into someone hubby knows.
In an aisle at the grocery store in Hawaii? Yes.
In the airport coming home from Mexico? Yes.
On top of Whistler? Yes.
On a flight home from Winnipeg? Yes.

When I bought my bluetooth for the van the telus guy was telling me about how it downloads your contacts from your cell. He stopped talking and chuckled saying "Well, not Perry's phone. Probably can't handle that many numbers."
Even telus man had never seen that many contacts in a cell before, and thats saying something.

What can I say? I guess he's a personable kinda guy.

I wish it were the number of times I didn't have to clean the bathroom.

Thanks for stoppin' by!

Deep Thoughts

So as I was sweating away on the treadmill the other day I got thinking about the term "losing weight". Why do we say this? Losing something is easy. You have it, and then you don't. You don't have to think about losing it, you just do. It takes no work what so ever. What about reducing the number on a scale is easy? We know exactly where those extra pounds went. They are not lost at all! It takes blood, sweat, and frequently tears. We really need to change this term to something else. How about Finding Thin~ness, or becoming physically lighter. That one rolls off the tongue quite nicely. Do you think it'll catch on?
